STOCKPORT COUNTY MURAL

Its been a privilege working on Stockport County’s brand-new wall mural, which pays homage to the fans’ ‘The Scarf My Father Wore’ chant.

We teamed up with local creative group The Writing Squad and Stockport County Community Trust and an inspiring group of young people in Edgeley as part of Stockport Town of Culture.

Led by writer Ruth Awolola and street artist Oskar with a K, the young people spent the February half-term at Edgeley Park, using creative writing to explore what The Scarf My Father Wore meant to them. They then helped to visualise that, by creating a massive community mural on one of the most prominent buildings in Edgeley.

Marking its official launch on Edgeley’s Castle Street were Hatters’ stars Tanto Olaofe, Myles Hippolyte and Odin Bailey. After admiring the artwork for themselves, the players presented County scarves to the group of local school children who helped create it.

Alison Warwood, County Community Trust CEO commented: ‘We’re so thrilled with the outcome of this wonderful venture. It’s been a team effort from start to finish, thanks to the enthusiasm of our young people.’

‘Not only is this mural a lasting tribute to Stockport County Football Club and its loyal supporters, it’s also a striking addition to the local landscape.’
